Stoner awarded an AM

The retired two-time MotoGP world champion and now V8 Supercar driver has become a Member in the General Division of the Order of Australia

Casey Stoner has been officially recognised in the 2013 Queen’s Birthday Honours List, and is now a Member (AM) in the General Division of the Order of Australia.

The award is for “significant service to motorcycle racing”, and it then goes onto list his achievements, beginning with a prolific junior dirt and long track career – 41 Australian and over 70 state titles – before turning the page to road racing, which began in a rush when he came up trumps in the UK-based Aprilia Challenge in 2000.

He made his full-time grand prix debut in the 250cc class in 2002 before cracking a seat in MotoGP in 2006 -- and just a year later he won the first of his two world titles on a Ducati, the second one coming on a Honda in 2011.

Stoner, who is now racing a V8 Supercar in Australia’s second tier title, is no stranger to awards, having been Young Australian of the Year in 2008, New South Wales Young Australian of the Year in 2008, and he also collected the Dawn Fraser Award at the Australian Sports Awards in 2008.
