Yamaha's James Stewart won his 11th AMA Supercross Championship race of the year in atrocious weather at Las Vegas on April 25, yet again defeating Australia's Chad Reed (Suzuki).
On lap four, Stewart passed Reed, but Reed bounced back and regained the lead. The same scenario would unfold on lap eight, but it was on lap 12 that Stewart made the final pass and rode off to victory.
But there was a controversial edge to the final when Reed was dramatically blocked and slowed while trying to lap his rival's teammate, Kyle Chisholm. That handed Stewart a three-second advantage over Reed, which he couldn't bridge before the chequered flag. And Chisholm was black flagged.
“I got the holeshot and started the race out great,” said Reed. “There are little things here and there that I need to work on, but I was basically happy with the way I rode tonight.
“With regard to the Chisholm incident it is what it is, I can’t dwell on it. I gave it everything I had, but unfortunately it wasn’t enough.”
“We head to Las Vegas next weekend for the last race of the season, and I am looking forward to it. We know we are going to have to play things very differently."
"That was a fun race for me," said Stewart. We passed one another several times and it was fun. Chad was on it tonight, and I almost crashed a few times. We have one more race next weekend in Las Vegas."
Davi Millsaps (Honda) was third in the penultimate round from last week's winner Ryan Villopoto (Kawasaki) and Andrew Short (Honda).
Short has already wrapped up third in the title.
Australia's Jake Moss (Honda) was seventh in the Western Regional Lites finale, with Honda's Trey Canard the winner. Ryan Dungey (Suzuki) won the title.
