Yamaha's James Stewart has extended his AMA Supercross Championship winning streak to four with another clinical display at San Francisco's AT&T Park on January 31.
Before over 39,000 spectators, Stewart led all the way to win from Aussie defending champion Chad Reed (Suzuki) and Kawasaki's Ryan Villopoto - the trio now really starting to put its stamp on this year's title.
"We are working really hard this year," said Stewart. "I felt good tonight and the track was tough. It was an awesome night for me."
Meanwhile, Reed was philosophical about a yet another second place, and he remains the only rider to podium all five rounds. He also had to contend with a nasty practice crash in San Francisco, which saw him take things cautiously in his heat.
“For what we had to work with behind the gate I got a pretty good start in the Main,” Reed said. “The first couple of laps were made difficult as I battled with Mike (Alessi) which allowed James to pull away a lot.
“I still have the points lead. Right now that is important and we go back to Anaheim next weekend to a track that has being designed by Jeremy McGrath, so I am looking forward to that."
Chad Reed started in fourth and moved into second place on lap three. He finished 4.458secs behind Stewart. Josh Grant (Yamaha) was fourth from Honda's Andrew Short.
Australian Daniel McCoy (Honda) made his first final this year, finishing a respectable 15th out of 20 starters.
Reed still leads on 108pts from Stewart (102), Grant (95), Villopoto (88) and Short (87).
In the Lites West Division, Kawasaki's Jake Weimer had it all to himself after rival Ryan Dungey (Suzuki) crashed on lap 11 of 15.
Dungey remounted to move back into second, with Honda's Trey Canard completed the dais.
Australian Dan Reardon (Honda) was seventh, the same position he holds in the title.
Round six is back at Anaheim in California on February 7.
