Team Honda Racing will field Jamie Stauffer (pictured) and Troy Herfoss in the 2015 domestic superbike season – but the main intrigue is where the pair will be plying their trade.
Honda won the 2014 Australasian Superbike Championship (ASC) with Wayne Maxwell, who has now defected to Yamaha, but the press release announcing Stauffer and Herfoss' retention is silent on whether Honda will compete in the ASC or the rival Motorcycling Australia-run Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) – or indeed both. Bikesales' sources suggest that Honda is heading back to the ASBK after a year out, but an announcement is expected soon.
Yamaha, which will run Maxwell, Glenn Allerton and Cru Halliday in 2015, will compete in the ASC and one round of ASBK at Phillip Island.
Next year will be Stauffer's sixth straight at Honda.
“I am really happy to continue with Team Honda Racing in 2015. The team is such a professional outfit and everyone gives 100 per cent," Stauffer said. "This year was a great one aboard the CBR1000RR SP and although I missed out on the title and finished in second place it really spurs me on heading into 2015 to make it my best year to date.
"I can’t wait to start the title challenge again and see what I can achieve.”
Herfoss was a late entry into Team Honda Racing in 2014 after initially replacing the injured Josh Hook, which then morphed into a full-time position where he finished third in the ASC.
As for Hook, he will be remaining in the Honda family in 2015, but instead competing in the All-Japan Superbike title for the powerful FCC TSR team, which will also include a Suzuka 8-hour appearance.
