Bryan Staring’s search for motorcycle racing stability may have arrived, with the Perth native set to compete in the final 10 rounds of the 2014 Superbike World Championship on an EVO-spec Kawasaki ZX-10R.
However, the Aussie may not be fully fit for the next round of the WSBK title at Donington on May 25 after breaking his elbow on May 10 while training on his pushbike. Testing on the ZX-10R is certainly out of the question before then, which means the 26-year-old will start the Donington round with plenty of ground to make up – just like the opening round of the world supersport title at Phillip Island when he was a late entry on the Rivamoto Honda.
That was going to be the start of a full WSS campaign, but the deal with Rivamoto collapsed soon after, leaving the former MotoGP rider without a ride in 2014.
But he’s now found a lifeline with Grillini, the Italian-based outfit which Staring’s countryman Mark Aitchison spent some time with a few seasons ago. Only days ago, Grillini announced that it was parting ways with Italian Michele Fabrizio, which left an opening for Staring.
"I'm really happy to join Team Grillini and to return to the Superbike World Championship," said Staring. "It's a pity I injured my right arm, but I will do my best to be ready for Donington."
