Two intrepid Italian scooterists are embarking on the ride of their lives, attempting to ride east across the planet on a pair of Indian-made 150cc scooters.
Marco Lugliengo and Diego Mariani will spend more than half a year on board their scooters in an attempt to raise money and awareness for less fortunate Indian citizens via the Semi Onlus charity, an NGO operating within India.
With a top speed of around 97km/h, the journey will be taken at a more pedestrian pace than if the sojourn was taken on sports bikes - or even a maxi scooter like the Burgmann.
The scooters used will be Indian-made LML Star 150 models, the same place where the money raised during the trip will end up. They even plan to do volunteer work in India during their journey.
Marco and Diego are well versed in the way of the carburetted scooter, and they'll need to be as they make their way south east across the globe from Italy to Sydney. Though reliable for the most part, there are plenty of things that can go wrong with scooters, especially when they're going to be covering such vast distances.
The colossal ride is expected to take the riders around seven months to complete, taking them across more than 30,000 kilometres of asphalt and dirt, crossing eight countries.
They plan on starting in Turin, Italy, and will head into countries such as Greece, Turkey, Pakistan, Iran, India, Indonesia and then finally Australia.
According to some scrappy translations, the Italian duo are aiming to "Bring a message of brotherhood and communion between peoples, cultures and religions," and "to enjoy the slow pace in a culture that has a speed value."
