Spyder community out in force

Can-Am Spyder owners hit Victor Harbor in South Australia for three days of rides and activities
Can-Am Spyder riders from all around Australia made their way to Victor Harbor (SA) last week (November 7-9) for the fourth annual Can-Am Spyder Owners’ Event.
A mix of over 125 Spyder RS, ST and RT roadsters participated in a range of planned rides and activities, including a ‘Ryde-in-Movie’ and a parade through the centre of Victor Harbor where a ‘Show & Shine’ competition was held.
The parade concluded at the McCracken Country Club, where the event was hosted, for an awards ceremony and gala dinner where comedian Mike Klimczak, fresh from the Adelaide Fringe Festival, entertained the troops.
“The passion and engagement displayed by the Spyder Community is exceptional,” said Gregoire Dupont, Vice President & Regional General Manager, Asia-Pacific. “Globally, the Spyder community continues to grow at a phenomenal rate and it is no different here in Australia.
“And with the local launch of the Can-Am Spyder F3 roadster early next year, we look forward to welcoming a new customer to the Spyder family while strengthening our relationship with existing owners.”
While the F3 will fall under the same national licence regulations as the existing line-up of Spyder roadsters, some progress has been made in South Australia with a special ‘Trike’ (Restricted ‘R’) licence available. Under this new process, South Australian residents with an unrestricted car licence can access the ‘Trike’ licence.
“With this licensing development, we hope to make Spyder roadsters more accessible to all motorists,” said Dupont. “Under current regulations in other states, experienced motor vehicle license holders are required to obtain and hold a motorcycle license for 12 months before they can get a trike-only motorcycle license or ride a Spyder.
“This is despite the fact that the Can-Am Spyder roadster offers a unique riding experience, integrating key automotive technologies including ABS, power
steering and traction control.”
The next Can-Am Spyder Owner’s Event will be the ‘Spyder Muster’, to be held from March 27-29, 2015 in Talbingo, NSW. For more information, visit www.spydermuster.com.au.
