The launch of MV Agusta's extensively updated Brutale 800 has begun in Spain, with Bikesales' Steve Martin on location for a first-hand account — just days after he finished third overall in the International Challenge at the 2016 Island Classic at Phillip Island.
The launch route in Spain looks like a doozy (and so was the last one in Europe when we tested the Turismo Veloce!), and Steve will be sampling a naked bike which has undergone significant changes over its predecessor -- 83 percent of the bike is new according to MV Agusta.
Motivated by the need to comply with the Euro4 emission standards which come into force in 2017, the Brutale’s exhaust system is overhauled and undisclosed engine modifications made — but Steve will undoubtedly be able to plug that gap in our knowledge.
The changes result in a reduction in top-end power (116hp down from 125hp) but is made up for by a hike in the triple-cylinder’s torque output which the firm claims is up by a considerable 25 percent.
As well as some significant cosmetic updates, other goodies on the 2016 Brutale 800 include a bi-directional quickshifter, a hydraulically operated slipper clutch, selectable engine maps and an eight-level traction control system.
Handling has been improved by way of a shorter wheelbase (1420mm down to 1400mm) and the trail has been increased by 8.5mm to add even more handling spice.
Bikesales will have the full launch report next week.
