
South Australia will become the fifth jurisdiction in Australia to introduce motorcycle lane filtering, with the laws to come into effect from April 15, 2017.
Lane filtering is when a motorcycle rider travels at a low speed between two lines of stationary or slow moving traffic travelling in the same direction.
Like NSW, Qld, Vic and ACT (which is trialling lane filtering), strict conditions will apply for the practice in SA, including a speed of 30km/h or slower. The other conditions are:
The penalty for unlawful lane filtering is a $363 fine and the loss of three demerit points.
