The popular Condo 750 will be held in and around the environs of Condobolin (NSW) this weekend, with Yamaha Racing's Todd Smith favoured to go one better than last year in the absence of Ben Grabham.
Grabham, now riding for KTM, is in maintenance mode for the following weekend's Australian Four Day Enduro, leaving Smith to test his mettle against the likes of Dakar finisher Andrew Coaker, Shane Diener, Matthew Fish, Paul Sinderberry, Dean Nuttall and local hotshot Tom Jacobsen in the gruelling 880km race.
Coaker, Nuttal and Jacobsen will all compete for the Husaberg Rallye Racing team.
The Condo is always a good shakedown for the Australian Safari, which will be held in Perth later this year.
"We've got a good thing going on with Yamaha at the moment and they have put together a really good race package for this weekend," said Smith. "Overall, I am feeling a lot more confident, as last year I only got to ride the bike for the first time on the Friday before the event. But this year, with more time on my side, I've worked on the suspension setup and I'm already a lot faster.
"I've been doing a lot of on the bike training and I'm working with the guys who prepared my bike for the Australian Safari last year - it is great to have some continuity in my preparation."
There is also a quad class at Condo in 2009, with nine riders taking the plunge.
