According to automotive media outlet autoevolution.com, US helmet company SKULLY is facing bankruptcy, with the fledgling firm to soon close its doors.
SKULLY is the maker of the innovative AR-1 road helmet, which features an integrated head-up display (HUD) and a 180-degree blindspot camera.
Autoevolution.com was recently contacted by a company insider, who claimed investors forced co-founder Marcus Weller to quit after they discovered he was trying to sell SKULLY to a Chinese company – a move that would have duped the investors out of any profits.
The insider says the investors gave Weller two days to sign over the company before they shut it down.
The report says that some 50 full-time employees have now said their farewells, while the 3000 pre-orders for the AR-1 – which retails at $US1499 ($A1994) each – will remain unfilled.
As of today, the SKULLY website is still operational but orders are no longer being taken, the site citing 'inventory issues'.
