Australia’s Arthur Sissis has been replaced in the Mahindra Racing Moto3 team by 18-year-old Italian Andrea Migno, who is a graduate of the VR46 Riders’ Academy and has been competing in the 2014 Spanish CEV title.
The decision by the Mahindra was announced following last Sunday’s GP at Brno in the Czech Republic, where Sissis again struggled and finished well back in 26th position.
“It wasn’t a good race and not how I wanted to say goodbye to Mahindra,” said Sissis. “Once again I was in among the slower riders, and it was impossible to get away.”
Sissis has been part of the world championship full-time since 2012, having made his debut with a one-off appearance at the 2011 Malaysian Grand Prix. His best result was third in the 2012 Australian Grand Prix at Phillip Island.
This year has been a tough one for the former junior speedway star, who missed the opening round in Qatar with illness. Since then he’s only cobbled together three world championship points, while teammate Miguel Oliveira is well inside the top 10 on 71 points.
Migno will make only his third Grand Prix appearance at Silverstone next weekend, having previously raced in the Catalan and Czech Grands Prix of 2013. Migno is currently fourth in the 2013 CEV Moto3 standings with four rounds remaining.
