A private equity firm – who else? -- has acquired a controlling interest in SHARK helmets, reinforcing the company’s equity base and providing it with the resources needed to go revamp its product line-up and increase its marketing clout.
At last year’s Cologne motorcycle show, it was announced the Race-R Pro and Race-R replaced the RSR2 helmets at the top of Shark range. The high-end Race-R Pro is made from carbon and aramid fibres and has been developed for the company’s top level racers in events like MotoGP and world Superbike.
The Race-R is derived from the Race-R Pro, with the main difference between the two lids is that the Race-R Pro has a double blade spoiler to help with aerodynamics when at high speeds.
Also new to the range is the Vision-R, which Shark claims offers the greatest panoramic visor aperture available on the market. Compared with common visor apertures the Vision-R has 25 percent more global vertical vision and 10 percent more horizontal vision.
The Vision-R also has the patented 'Rapid Anti Fog system' which holds the visor ajar to avoid misting and is easily usable with gloves.
Meanwhile, Shark has also unveiled a new logo (see second image).
Shark has its headquarters in Marseille, and its two manufacturing plants in Thailand and Portugal produce over 300,000 helmets a year.
Shark is distributed in Australia by Ficeda Accessories, tel 02 9757 0061.
