Two-wheel transport manufacturer Segway has unveiled outrageous plans for a hydrogen fuel cell motorcycle that is scheduled to arrive by 2023.
The Segway Apex H2 builds on the electric Apex concept from 2019, but adds a hydrogen fuel cell which will produce electricity for propulsion. Judging by photos, the hydrogen appears to be stored in a series of fuel canisters under the seat. Photos also show a futuristic design, with obvious sci-fi and cyberpunk influences.

Segway is perhaps better known for its self-balancing, two-wheel personal transporters, but since being purchased by Chinese company Ninebot, it has expanded to include other forms of transport such as quads, UTVs and scooters.
While some manufacturers are actively exploring the potential of hydrogen fuel cell motorcycles, there is virtually no current examples on the market. Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles are said to provide better battery range, quicker refilling times, and less carbon emissions than regular electric vehicles, but there are still concerns over safety and pricing.
The Segway Apex H2 is said to produce 80hp and accelerate from 0-100km/h in four seconds. It has a claimed top speed of 150km/h.
Segway is adamant that it will produce the bike, with a 2023 target date for customer deliveries. Pricing is estimated at ¥69,999 Chinse Yuan, which works out to be about $13,999AUD.
Whether or not this unique concept becomes a reality is yet to been seen, but hydrogen fuel cells are already in use in the automotive world. Time will tell if the technology becomes commonplace in the motorcycle industry.
