It's small, clad in carbon fibre, and seething with aggression. Must be an Aprilia race bike replica, surely? Not quite. It's a scooter.
The Scomadi Turismo Leggera 250 is a high performance scooter handbuilt by British marque Scomadi. The design is clearly inspired by classic Lambretta scooters, and the two-wheeler gets its 'Leggera' (meaning lightweight) name from its carbon fibre bodywork. It weighs 117kg -- not bad for tiddler, eh?
The Scomadi Turismo Leggera 250 is based around a custom-made tubular space frame and is powered by a Piaggio four-stroke engine with liquid cooling that cranks out 21hp at 8500rpm.
Scomadi reckons its one of the most powerful engines in its class, with the single-cylinder donk pumping out a very healthy 21Nm of torque. It drives the rear wheel through a CVT.
As well as its lightweight bodywork and hard-charging engine, the scorching Scomadi has a sporty chassis, fitted with twin outboard Bitubo gas-assisted hydraulic shockers at both the front and rear ends. These compact bad-boys have adjustable spring preload for riders who are serious about nailing apexes.
Deceleration is taken care of by 175mm front and 220mm rear disc brakes and road contact is handled with a 10-inch front wheel with 100/90 profile tyre, while the rear is a larger 12-inch rim shod with a chubbier 130/70 tyre.
Unfortunately the Scomadi Turismo Leggera 250 is only available in the UK, and in limited numbers at that. The best we can do is imagine the pure joy of hammering around town on a high performance carbon fibre buzz-box like this one...
