Sales boom

Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries figures say that motorcycle sales are up by 3331 to 43,581 for the first half of 2005, when compared to 2004

Road bike and ATV sales have been the big movers, with Honda claiming leadership in both categories.

"We are confident that we will have a strong second half of the year, particularly due to the launch of the highly anticipated CRF450X, the company's latest electric start enduro machine," said Honda Motorcycle General Manager Tony Hinton.

The company cites the VT750 Shadow (pictured) and the Blackbird among its top performers.

Yamaha has tended to dominate the off-road market, with sales in that sector up by 3.1 per cent, compared to 8.3 per cent overall.
