The assets of Erik Buell Racing (EBR) are to be auctioned on July 23, it has been announced, with the company — which went into receivership three months ago — stressing on its Facebook page that the "sale is not a selling off of individual pieces, but… selling off in large blocks as an ongoing concern sale".
The auction will begin on July 21 with a bidding process by potential buyers, with all bids then subject to court approval two days later.
"The assets have to be broken into segments like this by law, but it is a going concern auction and a number of bidders are coming with the intention to buy all the lots necessary to move the company forward again," continued EBR on its Facebook page. "The outcome is of course unknown, but it actually looks very good to us."
The key word there is "unknown", and of course it's completely plausible that individual and/or companies may covet a smaller slice of the EBR pie like unsold motorcycles and certain elements of the company's intellectual property. We'll know the answer to that question very soon.
EBR filed for receivership in mid-April, with a total of 126 employees directly affected by the decision, not to mention its network of American and international distributors, dealers and customers. Its world superbike team also closed shop, despite initial expectations it night be able to see out the season.
