The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission has issued a product safety recall affecting a number of late-model Suzuki GSX-R1000s.
The recall applies to K9, L0, L0Z and L1 models, through the VIN range of JS1CY111200100002 to JS1CY111200101302 -- the bikes have been available for sale from August 1, 2008 -- and has been issued because of the recent identification of a fault with the mounting bolts that fix the sidestand ignition cutout switch in place.
"Suzuki Motor Corporation has indentified that securing bolts of the sidestand switch body may loosen due to temperature expansion and contraction, which results in the reduction in the tension applied to the sidestand switch," the ACCC recall states. "Should the sidestand switch bolts lose tension, the switch operation cannot be assured, which may result in the engine stopping when engaging a gear other than neutral," it continues.
If the switch eventually dislodges, the bike will lose power and won't operate when in gear, leading to a potential loss of rider control.
If the recall affects your GSX-R1000, contact your authorised Suzuki Motorcycles dealer to arrange to have the issue rectified.
