A safety recall has been issued for BMW K 1600 GT and K 1600 GTL models sold from January 2010 to March 2013.
According to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission’s Product Safety Recalls Australia website, in some cases an incorrect fault entry was programmed into the bike’s electronics.
“It is possible that the motorcycle will switch to an emergency-operation mode and the engine may shut down,” states the site. “The sudden loss of power may pose a hazard to the vehicle occupants and other road users,” it continues.
BMW Australia is asking owners of potentially affected models to contact their nearest BMW Motorrad dealer for the issue to be checked and rectified.
