Sachs X-Road launched in Oz

The German company's Madass has been a big hit, and now there's a supermoto-styled machine to add to the commuter mix

Sachs, the German motorcycle and scooter manufacturer, recently launched its learner-legal 250cc X-Road at the Melbourne Motorcycle Expo.

The supermoto-styled machine, which has already been on sale in Europe for a number of years, is powered by a modest air-cooled, 230cc, five-speed engine that produces 18hp (12kW) at 7500 and 16.5Nm at 6000rpm – about middle ground between the 125cc commuters and the best performing 250cc road bikes.

The red, tubular steel frame certainly can’t be missed, and the X-Road also has 17-inch wheels, disc brakes at both ends, an 11-litre fuel capacity and 860mm seat height. The whole plot weights in at 149kg.

“The response to this new learner legal model has been tremendous,” said Sachs representative Josh Carter.

“Sachs Bikes have been responsible for some remarkable vehicle designs which have developed cult followings. We have no doubt the Sachs X-Road will follow in the footsteps of the ever popular Madass and develop its own following.”

Price is $3790.
