Suzuki's Ryan Dungey has clinched the 2010 AMA/world supercross title after finishing fourth at last Saturday night's 15th round in Seattle.
The rookie's now untouchable in the standings with two rounds remaining, leading the way on 320pts ahead of Kawasaki's Ryan Villopoto (266). Dungey succeeds the currently indisposed James Stewart as supercross champion.
"It's been an amazing season to sit here after 15 rounds and be the champion," said Dungey. "It was a lot of hard work and effort put in by everybody on the Rockstar Makita Suzuki team.
"This really is a dream come true, and all the hard work has paid off. The whole team gives 110 percent every week, and when we're all on the same page, this is what can happen. I have to thank the Man Above for making all this happen."
Dungey has now joined the legendary Jeremy McGrath as the only other rider to clinch the open supercross title as a rookie.
Kevin Windham (Honda) was the victor in Seattle, ahead of Tommy Hahn (Suzuki) and Justin Brayton (Yamaha). On a technical and rough track, Australians Michael Byrne (Yamaha) and Chad Reed (Kawasaki) were seventh and eighth respectively.
The final two rounds will be held in Salt Lake City (May 1) and Las Vegas (May 8).
