Royal Enfield has sold close to one million motorcycles globally in the last 12 months according to a sales report from parent company Eicher Motors.
A total of 912,732 motorcycles were sold by Eicher between April 2023 and March 2024, which represents a 9 per cent increase from the previous 12-month period.
Notably, the majority of sales were motorcycles with engine capacities up to 350cc. Motorcycles over 350cc tallied up to just 100,573 sales.
The report also notes that 77,937 motorcycles were sold internationally (outside of India) between April 2023 and March 2024. This presumably includes Australia.
But while business appears to be booming in India, the international total represents a 22 per cent decrease from the previous 12 months. Of course, as the new Himalayan 450 continues to reach different markets around the world, that total should improve.
Royal Enfield is distributed in Australia by Urban Moto Imports (UMI), but the volume of sales on our shores is unclear.
Along with Mojo Motorcycles (CFMOTO), UMI does not provide its sales figures to the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI), the body responsible for reporting new motorcycles sales data in Australia.
According to the FCAI, new motorcycles sales dropped by 3.1 per cent in 2023, with just 95,380 new motorcycles sold across all brands (excluding UMI and Mojo brands).
Anecdotally, there appears to be more Royal Enfields on Australian roads than ever before, but exactly how many remains a mystery.
