More confirmation that Royal Enfield is busily working away on a new platform of products and platforms has come with its purchase of the UK-based Harris Performance Products Ltd.
Harris has had a long-standing relationship with Royal Enfield and was responsible for the chassis development of the brand's Continental GT cafe racer (attached image).
Under the terms of the deal, Royal Enfield will acquire all assets, employees, trade names, technical know-how and intellectual property of Harris Performance Products Ltd. Royal Enfield is in the process of opening a UK technical centre, where a majority of the former Harris employees will reside.
"Their proven expertise, deep insight and understanding of motorcycling and Royal Enfield will be invaluable for us in our journey towards achieving leadership in the global mid-sized motorcycling segment," said Royal Enfield CEO Siddhartha Lal. "To have the Harris Performance team dedicatedly working with us will clearly enhance our engineering and product design capabilities."
Keen MotoGP (nee 500cc) and world superbike followers will be well aware of the Harris name, as the company — now over 40 years old — has designed and manufactured chassis that have housed engines from the likes of Yamaha and Suzuki. A number of Aussies raced 500 GPs with Harris chassis in the 1990s, including Peter Goddard.
