Rossi third at Gulf 12 Hours

Valentino Rossi finished third overall, and first in class, in his first race on four wheels since 2012

Valentino Rossi has finished third overall and won his class in the Gulf 12 Hours race at the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi.

It was Rossi's first four-wheeled race since 2012 and he shared driving duties in the GT3-spec Ferrari 488 with his half-brother Luca Marini and longtime friend Alessio Salucci.

The race was won by Christopher Mies in an Audi, ahead of his team-mate Nick Foster.

Speaking after the race, Rossi was keen to repeat the experience.

"It’s a new experience for us and a great feeling to race with Salucci and my brother," he said.

"To especially finish on the overall podium, it is the first time and so I want to do it another time. It’s a long day but very fun.

"It’s difficult to keep the concentration but especially during the day because in the evening it’s colder, you enjoy it more.

"The tyres gave better grip in the evening and I was definitely stronger. It was Luca’s debut, and I know what he can do from rally driving, and we enjoyed it very much".
