Rossi cops massive fine

Serenity comes at a price

Multi-time GP champ Valentino Rossi has decided to cop a massive fine of $57 million after reaching agreement with Italian tax authorities.

The latter were looking into the star's affairs, after he had claimed British residence for several years in what was seen as a tax avoidance move.

Rossi held a media conference with a manager from the Italian tax department, Massimo Romano, to make the announcement.

"I reached a fork in the road. I could have fought this but it would have taken a very long time. I'm much more serene now. Everything is much clearer and I can concentrate on my work," he said.

The 29-year-old Yamaha rider, who is estimated by European media to earn around $40-45 million per year, said he will move back to Italy.
