The Dutch Grand Prix was a round of extreme highs and lows for Australian Remy Gardner (ONEXOX TKKR SAG Racing), the Moto2 campaigner recording his maiden pole position in the class but then crashing out before the race's mid-point, fortunately unhurt.
Gardner enjoyed a strong start to the round at the Netherland's historic Assen circuit, his pole position also being the first for an Australian in the class since Casey Stoner in 2005, but despite a commanding start to the Moto2 race – which saw him in second place on lap two and in the lead group for nine laps – disaster struck when he crashed out soon after.

However, despite the bittersweet performance Gardner has shown he has what it takes to mix it with the front runners, and the 21-year-old will be looking to return to the sharp end of the field at next weekend's German Grand Prix at the Sachsenring.
"The weekend was almost perfect," said Gardner after the Dutch Grand Prix.
"I felt good in every session and was made up to get my first pole yesterday. Warm-up was also good and, in the race, certainly at the beginning, I felt good and think we could have won today.
"It just seems that whatever I do at the moment it goes wrong, but the luck has to change. I am so disappointed for me, the team, all my sponsors and the fans that are being so supportive this year.
"The good thing is that I don't have to wait too long to ride again so let's focus on the Sachsenring!"
