Powered by a compact 125cc Yamaha-Minerelli engine, the Rieju RS3 is arguably one of the more attractive learner bikes on the planet.
Launched at the 2009 EICMA motorcycle exhibition in Milan, the RS3 replaces the RS2 and adds a range of new bits and pieces and while offering a revised (and more aggressive) design.
Rieju, a Spanish-based company, enlisted Xenophya Design out of the UK to help design the RS3, and the new model has a distinct Honda sportsbike look to it, which depending on where you stand will either be a good thing. Or a not-so-good thing.
Competition for the RS3 will include the likes of the Honda CBR125R and Yamaha YZF-R125.
Power for the Rieju CBR - sorry - RS3 comes from a fairly high-spec 125cc Yamaha-Minarelli four-stroke engine. Featuring twin cams, four-valves per cylinder and liquid cooling, the Rieju RS3 also gets a tidy-looking side-mount exhaust system.
The lightweight RS3 is treated to a number of tasty components, such as twin wave disc brakes up front, lightweight 17-inch aluminium wheels, an overbraced rear swingarm plus USD 40mm forks and an aluminium frame.
It's doubtful the Rieju will come to Australia, but stranger things have happened...
