Riders for Health charity auction
The Riders for Health charity is auctioning off a heap of motorcycle sport memorabilia, including a Yamaha R1 previously ridden by Cal CrutchlowBritish charity Riders for Health is auctioning off a swag of MotoGP and motorcycle racing memorabilia, including a Yamaha YZF-R1 superbike donated by Bennetts Insurance and previously ridden by Bennetts-backed racers Cal Crutchlow, Scott Redding and James Toseland.
Riders for Health provides reliable vehicles, including motorcycles, to African nations so medicine and other vital medical supplies can be delivered to communities in remote and impoverished areas. It also trains the riders and drivers delivering those supplies to ride and drive safely in what are often challenging conditions, also teaching them about vehicle maintenance. The British government has thrown its support behind the auction (which runs until September 9), saying it will match the proceeds raised by the auction pound for pound, for items purchased by British residents.
The Bennetts bike is said to be in excellent condition and has 3185 miles (5096km) on its clock -- at the time of writing its highest bid was the equivalent of approximately A$8700. While the bike is located in the UK and its collection and delivery is the responsibility of the successful bidder, there are many other smaller items that can be posted internationally, like an Alpinestars t-shirt signed by Dani Pedrosa, a knee slider used and signed by Andrea Dovizioso, a Ducati Corse cap signed by Valentino Rossi, and an American flag signed by Nicky Hayden, Ben Spies and Colin Edwards.
