A coalition of riding groups, the motorcycle industry and individuals have organised a "Ride for the Hills" (RFTH) fundraising effort for victims of the devastating Victorian bushfires, now Australia's worst natural disaster.
The date is Sunday, April 5, with details as following:
Start: Pier Road, St Kilda
Departure time: 11.00am (Daylight savings ends at 3.00am, so don't forget to move your clocks back one hour)
Destination: Whittlesea
The RTFH now boasts a team of over 50 enthusiastic riders working on what will be one of the largest charity rides ever seen in Melbourne.
Many riders have offered their support, with eight "feeder runs" organised, each with its own nominated rider contact (click here). Reception for riders arriving at Whittlesea is being managed by the Whittlesea Ulysess Club Branch.
Victoria Police have thrown their support behind the event, and are working closely with the organising committee to ensure that the safest route is chosen for the event. Several off-duty police officers have volunteered their services on the day of the ride.
Riders are being encouraged to pre-register for the ride by paying $20 online here as there are some amazing prizes up for grabs for those that do so, via the official web site for the event. Riders unable to attend are also encouraged to donate, and they will also qualify for the online registration prizes.
All costs associated with the running the the RFTH have been covered by private donations. Therefore, all of the money contributed by riders will go to the Red Cross and on to the bushfire victims.
On the day, there will be plenty of signed memorabilia, prizes and raffles.
