Triumph-backed Glen Richards has become the first Australian to win the ultra-competitive British Supersport Championship.
Victory in last weekend's final round at Brands Hatch on the three-cylinder Daytona 675 was icing on the cake after Richards wrapped up the title at Silverstone on September 28.
He finished fourth on that day, which was enough to move him into an unassailable position over South African Hudson Kennaugh (Yamaha).
"It has been a great season for us and the bike has been fantastic all year," said Richards. "I came here to win the championship and it was important to stay out of trouble and bring it home for the title. It's great to be the man to win Triumph's first British title for many years and, after winning the Superstock title last year, this has been my second straight title with the team."
In the finale at Brands Hatch, Richards defeated Yamaha's Steve Plater and another Australian, world Supersport star Josh Brookes (Honda).
Richards, originally from South Australia, finished the championship on 240pts from Kennaugh (187) and Suzuki's Ian Lowry (146).
