Dutch company Revit has just completed transforming a normally adventurous KTM 950 Super Enduro into something even more intrepid — a project that adheres to its core value of "developing motorcycle gear that can be taken as far as you want to travel".
Gizmag reports that 'Project Double Dare', which took seven months to complete, is way more than your normal aesthetic transformation. The adoption of the two-wheel drive was obviously the largest undertaking, and involved fitting a Christini all-wheel drive system.
The kit to add front-wheel power was undertaken with gears, chains and shafts, using a system that is commercially available for Honda and KTM 450s.A lever on the handlebars activates the all-wheel drive system.
When the system is active it allows the front to free-wheel until the rear has lost 80 percent of its traction. Then a one-way clutch installed in the front wheel hub disengages, allowing the transfer of motion to the front until the rear finds grip again.
The Super Enduro has 19 (front) and 17-inch tyres, and there's also a hand-made aluminium fuel tank, and a pair of 41mm Keihin flatslide carbies for extra venom. Spent gases are expelled with a custom exhaust. An iPhone is used instead of regular instruments.
Does it all work the way it should? That's the million dollar question we're sill waiting for an answer to.
