The 2014 Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) has been reduced to three rounds, with the promoter and governing body citing a “response to recent developments”.
The ‘developments’ haven’t been spelt out, but the mass exodus of top-level riders and teams to the rival Australasian Superbike Championship (ASC) in recent weeks has certainly left the ASBK without a solid ‘power base’ .
The revised calendar is as follows:
Round one - Queensland Raceway April 5-6
Round two Hidden Valley Raceway June 20-22 (alongside V8 Supercars)
Round three Phillip Island July 19-20
A women's championship will be conducted at rounds one and three. Women who race in Superbike, Supersport and Production 250/300 will be competing for women's championships in the following:
Entry fees will be waived for all classes at the rounds. Competitors will only be required to pay the associated Motorcycling Australia, medical and timing levy of $99 all-inclusive. Garage Fees will also apply and be in line with 2013 charges.
