Remy Gardner looks destined for a shock switch to WorldSBK, with the Australian MotoGP rider close to signing with the GRT Yamaha team for the 2023 season.
The revelation comes after the Tech3 KTM rider expressed concern he would be without a MotoGP seat in 2023. “No, it's not [looking great for next year],” Gardner said in late August. “In MotoGP, it doesn’t look there’s anything.”

With Tech3 switching to GASGAS branding and signing Pol Espargaro for 2023, Gardner’s position with the team has become increasingly shaky. The MotoGP rookie has all but conceded that his time with the Tech3 team is over.
Remaining MotoGP seats for the 2023 season are now few and far between, with some initially suggesting the Australian might return to Moto2.
But German website speedweek.com claims Gardner has been thrown a lifeline by GRT Yamaha to race a YZF-R1 in the WSBK championship. According to the report, a deal is “close”.

The Giansanti Racing Team (GRT) currently features Garret Gerloff (USA) and Kohta Nozane (Japan) as its two riders. The pair are currently placed 11th and 19th in the championship respectively.
Gardner, the son of 1987 500cc world champion Wayne, was tipped for big things after claiming the 2021 Moto2 World Championship, but a rookie year of lacklustre results has seen him fall out of favour with KTM. A switch to WSBK could rejuvenate the 24-year-old's career.
