Australia’s sole Moto2 rider Remy Gardner has undergone an operation in Barcelona after he broke both legs and an ankle in a motocross training accident earlier this week.
He was operated on by Dr Xavier Mir, a surgeon who only a couple of weeks ago repaired Dani Pedrosa’s broken wrist.
Remy’s father, 1987 world 500cc champion Wayne Gardner, has made the following statement: “Remy was successfully operated on at Barca Hospital following the incident earlier this week.
“The operation, while complex, went well and the immediate signs are positive. Remy has already begun some light physio but is understandably in some discomfort. He will remain under observation in hospital for the next few days before hopefully being released later in the week.

"Although no date or timescale has been set for his return to the Moto2 World Championship with Tech3 at this time, Remy is already talking about getting back on track.”
Remy, 20, has enjoyed his a positive start to the 2018 Moto2 season, and is currently 12th in the standings after a best finish of sixth in Argentina’s round two.
He’s likely to drop down the standings after this weekend’s round at Jerez in Spain, with the following GP to be held in France from May 18-20. Gardner will be replaced by Spaniard Hector Garzo at Jerez.
