Australia's Chad Reed (Suzuki) has finally cracked it for a win in the 2009 AMA Supercross Championship, snapping James Stewart's seven-race winning streak at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
The two riders once again showed why they the best in the business, turning on a nail-biting show in the 20-lap final.
Stewart crashed on lap two, but staged an impressive comeback to pass Reed on lap 13. But he then went down a second time, and this time Reed wasn't going to give his nemesis a second chance as he powered to the finish line with 2.124secs to spare.
Mike Alessi made it two Suzukis on the podium, from round one winner Josh Grant (Yamaha) and Ivan Tedesco (Honda).
"I knew that if I had a good start I could give myself a chance," said Reed. "James (Stewart) has been riding awesome, and I want to take that next step. James made a mistake and I snuck around to get the win.
"This Indianapolis crowd made me feel like I was in front of my hometown crowd back in Australia because they were so loud and supportive."
Michael Byrne (Suzuki) was eighth on his Suzuki, while Daniel McCoy (Honda) was culled in the last chance qualifier.
Reed and Stewart now share co-leadership on 199pts, from Honda's Andrew Short (150), and the deadlocked pair of Grant and Kawasaki's Ryan Villopoto (both on 138).
Kawasaki scored the East Coast Lites quinella courtesy of Austin Stroupe and Christophe Pourcel, ahead of Suzuki's Nico Izzi.
Australia's big hope Brett Metcalfe (Honda) missed the race with injury.
