Yamaha’s new Grizzly 700 EPS quad has been thoroughly revised, with the 2014-spec model benefitting from a new powerplant and a number of chassis updates.
The new model is powered by a 686cc, fuel-injected, liquid-cooled, four-stroke, SOHC, four-valve, single-cylinder engine. Yamaha says the engine features a new piston, a higher 10:1 compression ratio, a new camshaft with revised valve timing, a redesigned cylinder head, and a new ECU with fresh mapping.
The end result, says Yamaha, is a leaner, meaner package, with 30 per cent better fuel economy and reduced emissions.
The Grizzly’s chassis and suspension package has also gone under the microscope. Yamaha says revised steering geometry has delivered lighter handling while maintaining the quad’s turning radius, with 30mm-wider upper and lower A-arms enhancing stability.
The quad now rolls on lighter Maxxis tyres and new rims, while Yamaha says a new dual-mode EPS (electronic power steering) set-up sees the addition of a '4WD + Diff Lock' mode, making optimal use of the Grizzly’s new steering geometry.
The 2014 Grizzly 700 EPS weighs in at 272kg (dry) and has front/rear rack capacities of 45/85kg respectively. Available in Steel Blue Standard, Yamaha Black SE or Racing Blue SE, the model comes with a three-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty and retails for $14,399, or $14,899 in either of the two SE guises.
