Reevu helmets are coming to Australia. In fact they're in transit as we speak.
The brand new helmet design features rear-vision optics technology, which has been in development for around seven years and basically gives riders a rear view mirror at the top of their field of vision. This advance in helmet technology has the potential to dramatically improve rider safety.
For more details on how the reflection technology works, check out our previous article on Reevu helmets.
At this early stage the helmets are coming to Australia via Reevu but will be available exclusively through Motorcycling Australia (MA).
An inside source at MA confirmed to the Bikesales Network that the helmets are about two weeks away from arriving in Australia. There will be a "container load" of the new helmets coming into Australia revealed our source, which means that although stock will be limited, there will be a significant number of the advanced helmets available.
"My suggestion is to get in early as they will not last," opined our source.
The Reevu RV MSX1 helmets will be available for sale from around June 16, 2010. The MA source explained that: "We are running them through MA as they have not yet got AS1698 (safety testing requirements), so we are helping the guys (from Reevu) distribute them for off-road and competition use until the certification comes through."
The Reevu helmets are Snell and DOT approved, and have been approved for sale in Europe having passed safety testing.
Our insider said that the initial shipment of Reevu helmets is a kind of a "kick start for the brand".
Retail pricing for the new helmets is expected to be around $800 if and when they hit retailers, but MA's shipment of helmets will be offered at $745, the price of which includes a one year membership to MA Riders Division.
Anyone who's really keen to get their hands on one of these advanced helmets can pre-order a lid by calling call MA (1800 564 662). More details can also be found at Reevuhelmets.com.au.
We'll do our best to snaffle one of the new helmets and publish a report on their effectiveness in due course.
