Beleaguered Aussie Chad Reed has confirmed he will compete in the opening round of the 2010 Australasian Supercross Championship (Super X) at his home town of Newcastle on October 16.
But the media release issued by his local press agent is ambiguous about whether Reed will compete in the remaining six rounds of the championship, which concludes in Brisbane on December 4.
This year has been an ‘annus horribilis’ for the Florida-based two-time world and AMA supercross champion, with the 28-year-old battling injury and then the debilitating Epstein Barr virus.
The back-to-back Super X champion has undergone exhausting treatment to attack the virus, and is now on track to return to racing in Newcastle – but for which manufacturer still remains a mystery. Reed recently parted ways with Kawasaki after just a one-year collaboration.
“It’s been a tough year, and although it’s not ideal to be racing at this point I would not miss the chance to be able to race in front of a home crowd with my family, friends and fans in the stands,” said Reed. “This will be a really special time for me, and I can’t wait to compete in front of a Novocastrian crowd again.”
