The online version of American magazine Racer X is reporting that Chad Reed's AMA supercross season is now officially in ruins, with news the Aussie champion will have immediate surgery on the hand he broke in Phoenix last weekend..
According to Racer X, Reed will miss about six weeks and come back in the second half of the year - where he will certainly still have a big say in who eventually claims the decorated title.
Reed's bingle with arch-rival James Stewart in Phoenix followed on from another DNF in round one when he had to retire with broken spokes on his factory Monster Energy-backed Kawasaki.
After this year's 'annus horribilis', Reed will now have to focus his energies on reclaiming the AMA title in 2011, which could be his last year in motorcycle racing before he turns his focus to a V8 Supercar drive.
