Reed third at Anaheim 2

And has now moved into the same position in this year's AMA supercross title, keeping arch-rivals James Stewart and Ryan Villopoto within striking distance

Yamaha’s James Stewart has edged 5pts clear in this year’s AMA Supercross Championship after defeating Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto and Australia’s Chad Reed (Honda) in round five at Anaheim’s Angel Stadium on February 5.

Stewart’s third victory of the season was clinical, as he led the field through turn one and then controlled proceedings all the way en route to a 4.158-second triumph. Reed was then another 12 seconds behind Villopoto, with Justin Brayton (Yamaha) and Trey Canard (Honda) fourth and fifth. Australians Brett Metcalfe (Suzuki) and Tye Simmonds (KTM) were eighth and 18th respectively.

Defending champion Ryan Dungey (Suzuki) did not finish the race due to a mechanical failure.

“I am so proud of everyone on my team for making this happen,” said Stewart. “It’s awesome to come here and win in front of a sold-out crowd here at Angel Stadium. I am out here racing against the best guys in the world, so this is never easy.”

Reed was riding a pink-liveried bike at Anaheim, and his one-off riding gear will now be auctioned off with all monies going to support breast cancer research in Australia. For more information visit facebook.com/twotwomotorsports.

Round six of the AMA title will be held in Houston on Saturday, February 12.
