Australian Chad Reed is 9pts behind Ryan Villopoto with one round remaining in this year’s AMA Supercross Championship.
With additional factory support from American Honda, Reed finished second at the penultimate round in Salt Lake City last Saturday, with the event won by Kawasaki-backed Villopoto.
“I was a bit disappointed with myself tonight.” Reed admitted. “I had a great heat race but I don’t think I rode hard enough from the start of the final.
“It could have been a better day but I am still in it and the pressure is all on Ryan from here.
“Vegas (the venue for the finale) is without a doubt my favourite event on the calendar and I have nothing to lose. I will hang it all the line and see where we end up.
“This year’s series has seen more twists and turns than any other so I doubt it is over yet.”
As well as Reed, defending champion Ryan Dungey (Suzuki) and James Stewart (Yamaha) also remain in championship calculations heading into Vegas.
But Reed is in the next position to dislodge Villopoto, and there are plenty of scenarios that would allow that to happen.
One if that if both riders make the final, a win for Reed and a fifth place or worse for Villopoto would be good enough for the Australian to claim the spoils.
