Reed slogs his way to SX success
The perennial fan favourite took his second win from as many starts in the 2012 Australian Supercross ChampionshipA crowd of over 6000 braved wet conditions to see Chad Reed produce yet another standout performance in round three of the 2012 Terex Australian Supercross Championships at Toowoomba Showgrounds on November 10.
Reed took his second win from as many starts on his Honda CRF450R, relishing the challenge of the longer and more demanding track layout.
Reed led the Pro Open 15-lap main event from start to finish, with Ben Townley (CRF450R) and Todd Waters (Suzuki RM-Z450) second and third. Championship leader Jay Marmont (Kawasaki KX450F) was fourth, and leads the standings by 7pts over Daniel McCoy (Yamaha YZ450F), who was a solid fifth.
Reed moves to equal third on the championship ladder alongside Waters and Lawson Bopping (YZ450F).
“It’s a pretty good feeling to get the win, I had to try to get a good start but at the same time stay safe,” said Reed.
“I got to the front but had to take my goggles off as the lights were a lot lower than I am used to.
“It was a tough race out there, especially getting past the lappers. I want to thank everyone for sticking around in the rain, it was a great crowd.”
The Pro Lites final turned into an epic fight between the three leading factory riders: KTM’s Ryan Marmont (250SX-F), Kawasaki’s Kade Mosig (KX250F) and Honda’s Gavin Faith (CRF250R), who eventually finished in that order.
“I’m really stoked for the JDR team, they have put in a huge effort,” said Marmont.
“The injuries have taken their toll this year but I have been training hard for this Supercross season and it paid off. I am really looking forward to next week.”
Faith retains the title lead. He heads to the final round in Newcastle with a 9pt gap over Marmont, who has a further 6pts over Mosig.
The Unit Under 19s class saw a new winner, with KTM’s Kale Makeham beating home series leader Hayden Mellross by a margin of just 0.587 seconds.
