After a rusty start to the 2011 AMA supercross campaign, Australia’s Chad Reed (Honda) has roared back into top form with a second place finish at round four in Oakland, California on January 29.
Reed passed defending champion Ryan Dungey (Suzuki) on the final corner to annex the No. 2 spot behind arch-rival James Stewart (Yamaha).
”I am over the moon with tonight’s second place. It was a very close race but we’ve worked for it and we deserve it,” Reed said
“The track and conditions suited both me and the bike, and experience played a huge part in the result. Being calm and patient is the only way to play the game when the track is slick and unpredictable like that.
“Tonight has been hugely rewarding, not only for myself, but also for the guys and girls on the team, and for our sponsors.”
Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto, an early leader before crashing on lap two, was fourth ahead of Australia’s Brett Metcalfe (Suzuki).
Stewart has now moved into the championship lead on 92pts ahead of Villopoto (90), Dungey (78), Trey Canard (Honda, 71), Reed (70) and Metcalfe (55).
In the Lites class, Kawasaki’s Broc Tickle defeated brand-mate Josh Hansen and Eli Tomac (Honda), with Australia’s Ryan Marmont (KTM) 10th.
The next round sees the field return to Anaheim’s Angel Stadium on Saturday, February 5.
