Chad Reed’s 2013 Monster Energy Supercross Championship campaign took a turn for the better on Saturday, March 2, when the TwoTwo Motorsports owner and racer returned to the podium at round nine of the title at Edward Jones Dome in St Louis, Missouri.
Honda-mounted Reed put in a solid performance through practice and qualifying, before finishing fourth in his heat race and claiming third in the 20-lap main event, in what was his 150th start in the 450 class. The ex-pat Aussie staved off a late challenge from Ryan Dungey (KTM) to finish behind race-winner Ryan Villopoto (Kawasaki) and James Stewart (Suzuki).
Reed, who had not seen the podium since round three (Anaheim II), admitted he was feeling fast and comfortable on the Honda CRF450. “That was a much better result tonight,” he said. “I felt I had a little more fight for the boys. I think now the bike is good – it’s just up to me to trust it again. Every time out tonight I felt a little more comfortable.
“I feel like we are going in the right direction; it’s just trying to get that trust back. Every time I pushed the bike tonight it gave me the right answers so it is up to me to find that little something extra,” he added.
Reed now sits in fifth place in the 450 Supercross title standings, one point behind Trey Canard (Honda). The 2013 Monster Energy Supercross Championship now moves to Daytona International Speedway, Florida, for round 10, on Saturday, March 9.
