Chad Reed (Rockstar Suzuki) has continued his domination of the inaugural SuperX series, powering to victory in round two at the Adelaide Showground last Saturday (October 18).
After the traditional 20-lap final kicked off proceedings in Perth two weeks ago, Adelaide saw the riders go into battle in a 'Super Sprint' format, which saw the two semi-finals and final - all five-lappers - conducted in the space of a frenzied 20 minutes.
Eleven riders started the Open final, with Reed again proving to be the go-to man when the pressure was on. Despite an indifferent start, the world supercross champion was in the lead by lap two, eventually winning by 1.998secs over Jay Marmont (CDR Rockstar Yamaha), with Daniel Reardon (Woodstock Geico Honda) rounding out the podium.
Reed was certainly tested more than in Perth, although he did express some concern about the Super Sprint format.
"We have a lot to learn out of today," said Reed. "The new format did throw up some interesting results but the track was very technical which made it tough."
"This series is going to keep evolving and we will keep fine tuning the race formats to ensure we give the fans the best experience possible.
"What was pleasing was to see how much the Open guys have stepped up since the last round; they really went out hard and put it all on the line."
Reed is now on a maximum 50pts after two rounds, ahead of Marmont (42), Reardon (42), Daniel McCoy (Woodstock Honda Thor Racing, 32), Andrew McFarlane (MX Rad Yamaha, 32) and Cheyne Boyd (CDR Rockstar Yamaha, 32).
McCoy rode into a lonely fourth in Adelaide, from McFarlane and Troy Carroll (Cool Air Kawasaki).
In the Lites class, Matt Moss (Shift Motul Suzuki) prevailed from twin brother Jake (Serco Yamaha) in the 15-lap final, reversing the result from round one.
Matt was a 6.442sec victory, with Jake's consolation the fastest lap of the race - a scintillating 47.406.
Motorex KTM's Ryan Marmont, the reigning national supercross champion, was third from Kawasaki duo Adam Monea (Cool Air) and Luke George.
The Moss brothers are both on 47pts, from Marmont and Monea on 34.
Round three will be held at Geelong's Skilled Stadium this Saturday, under the cut-throat Triple Challenge format. Competitors will run off in two 10-lap heats, with positions 1-9 progressing direct to the final, while riders 10-20 will fight it out in a last chance qualifier for two more finals places.
The final will be contested over three separate six-lap races, with points awarded for each race.
