Reed and Mladin still pulling in the lucre

American-based motorcycle racers Chad Reed and Mat Mladin have again made it into the top 10 of that annual barbecue stopper - the BRW-collated sports earners' list.
According to BRW, Reed, who won this year's world and AMA supercross titles, has pulled in $8.7m in 2008 to place him third behind perennial winner and now part-time golfer Greg Norman and Turkish-based soccer player Harry Kewell.
Reed, has moved up three spots on the BRW ladder from 2007, while Mladin, second in this year's AMA Superbike title behind teammate Ben Spies, has remained in ninth spot with earnings of $6.5m.
Four other Aussies also made it into the top 50 -- and one may surprise. MotoGP stars Casey Stoner (16th with $3.5m) and Chris Vermeulen (36th $1.1m) are givens, world Superbike champion Troy Bayliss (33rd $1.5m) likewise, but dual world speedway champion Jason Crump (47th, $1.1m) also sneaks in.
The Northampton-based Crump races in the British, Swedish and Polish domestic speedway leagues, as well as the world championship. Most of his big ticket sponsors come from Poland (including a mild sexual stimulant) where speedway is the No. 1 spectator sport -- the equivalent of AFL football in Australia.
The BRW list takes into consideration all earnings, because Norman would probably just sneak into the top 50 if the terms of reference were tighter. Instead, Normal earns the bulk of his income through his company Great White Shark Enterprises, which dabbles in golf course design, wine, property -- and bitter divorces from what we've seen this year...
Meanwhile, endorsements, bonuses and prizemoney for Mladin and Reed are also taken into consideration, as well as their base salaries.
