BMW Motorrad has announced local pricing for its compact G 310 R LAMS machine, which is slated to reach Australian dealerships in October or November 2016.
The new single-cylinder roadster is keenly priced at $5790 plus on-roads, which is sure to grab plenty of attention in the ultra-competitive entry-level market.
That price puts it just above Honda's CB300R ABS ($5699 plus on-roads) but below rivals like Kawasaki's Z300 ABS ($5999 plus on-roads) and KTM's Duke 390 ($6095 plus on-roads).
BMW G 310 R was unveiled just before Milan's EICMA show in November last year. Not too much has been said of the model in the months since, but now the days are counting down until the diminutive model's local release.
The model fills an important gap in the manufacturer's local line-up, with only its C 650 Sport and C 650 GT currently eligible under the Learner Approved Motorcycle Scheme.
The learner market has been a hotbed of activity in recent years, with LAMS models accounting for seven out of the top 10 best-selling roadbikes in 2015.
According to BMW Motorrad General Manager, Andreas Lundgren, the G 310 R represents a very important expansion of the BMW Motorrad range.
"The new G 310 R is an exciting development for BMW Motorrad," he said.
"It is an agile motorcycle and although smaller in size and capacity, it has the dynamic performance and technical innovation that are intrinsic qualities of the marque. The G 310 R will open up the brand to a whole new audience." said Lundgren.
The model comes with ABS as standard and will be available in Cosmic Black, Strato Blue Metallic or Pearl White Metallic.
