It’s just one week until the 2012 AirAsia Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix descends upon Victoria’s Phillip Island circuit, and the Australian Grand Prix Corporation has reported that online ticket sales are spiking as fans seize their last opportunity to catch reigning world champion Casey Stoney in action at his home round of the MotoGP Championship.
According to the AGPC there are just 100 grandstand tickets remaining for the event, while a number of facilities are already at capacity. Over 6000 campers have already reserved a site within the circuit’s campgrounds, which the AGPC says have been doubled in size from last year. With Stoner set to retire at the end of this season, it seems potentially record-breaking numbers of fans will be making the pilgrimage, to see the Honda Repsol rider strut his stuff and give him a farewell befitting a two-time world champion.
According to the AGPC’s CEO, Andrew Westacott, race-goers will need to move quickly to grab the last remaining premium tickets.
“With many of our ticketing options already at capacity, we are urging fans to secure the last remaining seats to witness this moment in history, as Stoner hones in on his sixth straight Australian MotoGP victory in his last home race,” he said.
“This year’s event is shaping up to be the biggest yet, with record crowds expected. Fans will enjoy more on- and off-track entertainment than ever before with the addition of the Australian Supercross Championships, the new MotoGP Fan Forum, the Globe of Death, Flair Moto Trials and more,” he added.
