Recall: Honda GL1800 Gold Wing
As anticipated, the ACCC has issued an official recall of Honda's airbag-equipped Gold WingJust over two weeks since Bikesales.com.au reported that Honda's GL1800 Gold Wing would be hit by a recall for faulty airbags, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has issued an official recall notice for the fault.
In Australia it applies to 2008-2010 models, with about 370 units affected. The recall affects bikes with VIN numbers 1HFSC47U88A750001 to 1HFSC47U7AA950230.
The problem is down to a faulty Takata airbag inflator.
"Due to atmospheric deterioration, over time, the airbag inflator may degrade," states the ACCC recall notice.
"This may lead to over-aggressive inflation in the event of an airbag deployment. In some cases, the inflator body may rupture, causing metal fragments to pass through the airbag and strike the rider.
"The metal fragments may cause serious injury to the rider or, in the worst case scenario, fatal injuries," the notice continues.
Affected Goldwing owners will be contacted by Honda Australia, who will arrange for their bike to be inspected and repaired.
