CDR Yamaha’s Dan Reardon took victory for the third consecutive time in the fourth round of the the Australian Supercross Championship’s main event held at Jimboomba, Queensland, on Saturday 21 November.
In very hot conditions, Reardon finished ahead of defending champion Matt Moss who recovered from a early crash to cross the line in a hard-fought second place in front of Reardon’s Yamaha teammate Kade Mosig.
“The track was so tough tonight,” Reardon said. “The dirt was hard and finding traction was difficult so you had to ride with precision and with a lot of throttle control. The opening lap with Matt was pretty exciting and it was a shame he went down.”
In a bid to keep his championship hopes alive, Team Motul Suzuki’s Moss put the track difficulties aside and fought his way through the field to take a gutsy second place, but remained disappointed.
“That’s three straight rounds I’ve been on the ground,” Moss said. “And when you’re racing for a championship, you can”t afford to do that. But I’ve just got to cop it on the chin and come back stronger at the next one.”
Mosig, who was unable to defend Moss in the final stages of the 20-lap race, was happy with his podium and to pick up the points.
“I was trying so hard to stay in second,” Mosig stated. “I saw Matt edging up so I tried to put in some fast laps there to keep him at bay but the track was so slippery that it was easy to override it and go slower.”
The podium reflects the championship standing with Reardon 10pts clear of Moss heading into this weekend’s round five at Sydney’s All Phones Arena.
